About Dr Samantha Hall
A built environment EXPERT consulting on healthy buildings, space IQ and sustainability.
Space (IQ) is the art of decoding and measuring how a space influences human behaviour and experience. We spend our days interacting with different spaces, from our homes, to the office, to the park, or a cafe. People experience these spaces emotionally, mentally and physically. A space will directly influence our health and well-being, and that of the planet. For all of these reasons never before has it been more important to design space with mindfulness and intentionality.
Dr. Samantha Hall has always been fascinated by the relationship between how we live and who we are, however it was a trip to Thailand that changed everything. While working in Bangkok she was taken aback by the level of environmental degradation. This was a catalyst that uncovered a new mission, and as a result she commenced study in environmental science, achieving a masters and a PhD in sustainable cities and buildings. She also went on to complete a post doctorate on evidence based decision-making for healthier buildings. This was the beginning of a lifelong passion for decoding intelligent spaces, and bringing it out from scientific journals into practice.
In 2016, Samantha stepped into the world of entrepreneurialism as the Founder and Managing Director of Spaces Alive. Spaces Alive was born in the intersection between intelligent data, user experience and building design. Today Spaces Alive is a consultancy that continues to leverage technology enabling the intuitive genius required to design spaces that create an intentional influence on human behaviour. In 2020 she launched Campus Intuition with global partners, a specialist Space IQ agency for higher education institutions to transform campus experience.
Today, along with being a consultant and a speaker, Samantha continues to be a passionate environmentalist, and also works closely with her local startup and innovation communities. She is also an advocate for women in STEM having joined 78 other women for the first Homeward Bound leadership program in Antarctica in 2016.
As a speaker her presentations are full of shots of wonder, while at the same time grounded in scientific research and evidence. You will walk away from Samantha’s presentation with a new perception of how to read Space IQ, but even better than that, you will walk away with the skills to create a space that enables more intelligent behaviour in you and your people.
